when i bought him the lighting was dim and he was listed as "common"

i feel he is a different kind.

No, he's not a common Pleco, it's a Trinidad Pleco.

To me it looks like a common plec but i can't be sure, i have never seen markings like it, bit it is highly likely that its a common plec.

thats definately not a common

its a trinidad, interesting pattern

hopefully ur tank is 70g/280l+, it gets 11 inches

looks to me it might be a black hi fin pleco L108 though check out www.monsterfishkeepers.com
