What kind of press more popular in The USA:branch or public?

Some of russion journalist think that in The USA branches press is more popular than social-publik press.And I WANT TO KNOW IF IT IS TRUTH.

if by public you mean pbs, npr etc.. and private being CNN, ABC, NBC, FOX and all the papers such as New York Times then the private is more popular.
