  1. Do not go with the LightScribe. First of all it does not print onto white discs (printable CD/DVD's), it laser etches onto LightScribe CD/DVD's and they are expensive. Also they do not provide color, since it is basically scratching the coating off the top and all you see is the color underneath. They are also very slow. I have a LightScribe and I used it once and that was the only time I ever used it.

I have an Epson RX595 (print/copy/scan) that prints onto printable CD/DVD's. Any of the Epsons R and RX series printers will do this type of printing. U.S. prices range from $99-$199, depending on what functions you want from your printer.

  2. well if you're using labels to then stick on top of the disks i would suggest a laser printer they are fast and good graphics some of them can be expensive but after enough searching your sure to find a decent one that is a good price if you're printing straight onto disk you will have to look for one that has extra software to do that which could be quite difficult and expensive. hope this helps :D

  3. well i got a good epson R220 and i love it.

They have stopped making that model now but you can probably find one somewhere, or something similar.

First off though, they will never look like the retail disks that you buy from the shop.

but the silver printable disks look great. almost like a hologram!

my printer was £75 about 2 years ago. still going strong. it takes 6 cartridges but i buy compatables and a box of six only costs me £10 a time.

  4. I use my Epson R360 to print onto my cd's and DVDs. It has a special round carrier for this. Great value at around £70, and it is superb for photo printing as well.

  5. As someone who was in the computer hardware business for years (though I rarely sold printers since I couldn't compete with the crazy rebates) I have always recommended Epson. The print quality is excellent, even on plain paper. I have photos I printed on a 640 about ten years ago hanging in my office which still look good, though not as good as the ones from the CX8400 on glossy paper. The warranty is excellent. For a year, Epson will express-ship a replacement and pick up the old one. I had one customer who needed this. He called one afternoon and had the replacement two days later. Another client bought a Canon. It needed two repairs within a few months. Each time it was taken to the repair center, then picked up a few days later. This client runs a specialty printing business and this really hurt. They have since bought an Epson CX5000 and have had no down time since.

All name brand ink is expensive, but you can get cheap new replacement cartridges for Epson (not refills which I never recommend) for under $5 at http://ccs-digital.com/ink.asp   I have been using these for years.

The RX595 scanner/copier/printer prints on DVDs. It uses 5 colors plus black and has high photo quality. It's on sale for $80 after $55 instant rebate.

  6. i'd look into getting a lightscribe DVD drive.

  7. Dymo disc painter, $250.
