Question:

What kind of prop for ski/wake boat?

i have 87 mastercraft prostar with the 240HP 351w nonpowerslot, 1:1 tranny. my old prop, the original OJ 13x13 LH is missing a big piece. what would be a good uprgrade from this prop? a 3 blade or 4 blade? i mainly wakeboard, not much skiing.

If you like the prop that was on it originally, some boat shops can send out yours to possibly have rebuitl, that way you can have a back-up when you need it.  It will depend on how much is actually missing, however.  If you are mostly wakeboarding, you may not want to go with a 4 bladed prop, more power, smaller wake.  If you want a larger wake, I would stay with a 3 bladed.  Check with some local marinas for the correct pitch for what you need.


  2. First thing I would do is see if you can get a wider prop (longer blades). Measure the clearance b/w the tip of your prop blade now to the closest obstruction (on mine, its the trim zinc). I noticed on my old prop that I could easily get another inch out of a new prop. Next, I would experiment with a 4 blade prop, instead of a 3 blade. It should give you more power, torque, and top end speed. I would recommend aluminum, I feel its the best overall for the $. You may want to check your pitch, it affects pick-up versus top end speed.
