I'm a first time buyer and would greatly appreciate any serviceable input on purchasing a personal watercraft (sea doo).

  2. I have one, it's a 2006 GTI SE.  First, do you have experience with jet skis?  Do you want a standup, which is just for you, or will there be others you want to take?  The GTI is a 3 seater, it's a 4 stroke, like all the ones they make now, and it's about 150 hp, will do 60 mph.  It's an introductory ski, in other words it's not a high performance, but compared to ones made 5 years ago it has plenty of power.  It will be some maintenece, and it will start to cost a bit of money because the warranty is totally crappy, but it is made better than the old 2 strokes, but it does have more electronic components that can break down.  So far I've spent about 400$ on repairs and maintenence, because something went through my impeller and tore it up, but I got a manual, and fixed it myself, just paid for parts.  They won't cover "wear and tear" of the vehicle, and they will try to say everything is wear and tear basically.  Get a manual, and if you are even a little ok at mechanics you should be able to fix it yourself.  The other week mine was showing an error code on the display, and I didn't have access to a computer that could check it, so I took it in. Turned out to be water in the spark plugs, which I could have fixed, they charged me 100 to replace 3 spark plugs that were fine!!! Those *******, anyway, yea, that's about the only complaint I have, other than that, it's a h**l of alot of fun, and can be some work if your up for it.
