I know it's a progressive radio station, but is it a syndicated radio network? Is it only available over satellite radio? Also, who are its competitors...or what other radio networks are marketed and work in a similar fashion?

  1. It is a radio network, though each show can be syndicated individually. Its still around on a handful of radio stations and XM. Air America's doesn't have competition as far as a similar talk network, it competes against other syndicated networks like Premiere or Westwood One. These networks aren't dedicated networks like AA where a station can tune in and leave it on all the time, they just syndicate individual shows. AA also competes indirectly with individual talk stations that compete with AA's affiliates.

Other networks that work in a similar fashion, though aren't really competition because they deal with diffeent subject matter and cater toward a different demographic are ESPN Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and Sporting News Radio.

  2. Air America was a good idea that was run very badly. In San Francisco, there is a progressive station, but  they only play Rachel Maddow & Randi Rhodes. The other shows are from other services. This includes Stephanie Miller & Ed Schulz. Steph is morning drive from LA & very funny, & very anti-Bush. Schulz is supposedly the most listened to liberal on radio. But neither are air america.
