Shes a female, with standard ears. When I got her as a baby, she was all a greyish black. Now shes 11months and during that time, her coat as started to change to brown colour. But right now its only her bum and back legs thats turning brown. I would have thought that she would be fully brown by now if her coat was changing colour. What do you think?

  1. More likely then not you have what is called a fancy rat.

  2. Sometimes (Mostly in black rats) their fur changes as they get older.  It's called Rusting, and it can be caused by diet or sunlight, but also just kind of ... happens.  I have one black rat who's butt is now brownish as a result of this, and another black rat that hasn't had this happen.  (They're not related.)

It's perfectly fine/normal, and as long as you're feeding her good food, no reason to worry about it at all.  :)

  3. she may be a dumbo or a normal rat but as she is so getting older she is loosing her baby colour and is now getting her proper adult coat colour that she should have all the time plz post a pic of her i love rats awwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!! =)
