Question:

What kind of red ants are very small but not agressive?

I have extremely small (no more than 1/8" long) red ants that come out of an outlet in my living room. They travel in distinct trails down the wall and onto the floor where they swarm by the hundreds. There has been nothing spilled in this area & it's blocked off by furniture. They don't bite and don't seem to be very aggressive no matter how much you disturb their spot which makes me think they are not Red Imported Fire Ants. I had one on my arm and it didn't bite; they just sort of walk around checking things out. Any thoughts what they might be?

  1. Just kill them. Use a mix of cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle it here and there. The ants will come and pick up the sugar, along with the cinnamon, and take it back to their queen. Ants can’t digest cinnamon and once the queen dies from not being able to digest the cinnamon the colony will die without her.

  2. Ants can not be killed with cinnamon/sugar. Ants do not eat solid food. Ants can not eat solid food. Kim G has been spreading that rumor for a long time.

Here's the most likely to least likely species of ants you could have.

    Pharoah Ant

    Little Black Ant

...actually that's all I can think of.

You really should get rid of them before they swarm or bud. Then you'll really have a mess on your hands.

Don't bother with the following, though:

Grants Ant Stakes (super-poisonous to mammals)

    Bay Leaves

    Cinnamon

    Mint

    Grits

    Cream Of Wheat

Good luck to you. Sounds like it could be worse.  =)
