What kind of rock is it?

It is rough, and has jewels bunched up in one spot. They are pointed at the top and wide at the bottom. They are very small. The one's in the middle are a purple pink color, and the one's on the outside are a little lighter. Al of the jewels are on the outside of the rock. I don't think its a geode because of their placement, and it looks somewhat different.

  1. From your description I suspect Amethyst, a purple variety of quartz, but it is difficult to tell without a picture. Does it look like the Amethyst first link?

Also, you should take a picture of it and upload it to www.mindat.org  They have a message board called "Identity Help".

  2. It will not be possible to identify the rock based on that description.  The term "jewels" has no meaning to a geologist.

Normally we identify a rock by the mineral composition, fabric, and environment.

You could try posting a picture, or taking it to the geology department of a local university.

  3. Sounds like pink/purple halite.
