What kind of running will make my legs skinnier and more toned? Sprinting or running long distances?

  1. Running long distance can make someone lanky. BUT, it takes a boatload of mileage. Also, if your body type is naturally larger, you may never get that way.

  3. I think long distance will tone without increasing the bulk or size of your legs.

    Even though distance runners have muscular legs they are not bulky like sprinter's legs since sprinting takes more strength.

  4. long distance for sure. Sprinters tend to get bulky thick muscles and distancers get leaner, toned leg muscles.

Long distance.  Just watch the Olympics and you will see once you get past 400 meters the runners get lanky.  It is the difference between needing the power to run a short distance to being long and lanky to glide over the long distances.  Lot depends on body type.  If you are big and broad shouldered you probably will never be long and lanky.
