i wont buy one for a while but i really want to do it. I don't really know to much about the boats them selves so i don't know what i would but. I would probably sail from the west side of north america to the Panama canal up through bermuda, caribbean, all around in there, then up to england and down the west side of europe then down under africa and to Oceania.

don't call me crazy, i have friends who did it, I think they had a 38 foot sloop or cutter.

but i was wondering what would be good for that.

thanks (just answer don't tell me anything about it being stupid)

  1. This is NOT crazy! My husband and I lived on our sailboat 35 years ago and traveled mostly on the east coast. We bought a bare hull from Tom Morris of Morris Yachts, Southwest Harbor, Maine:

and finished it in our garage. It was a Francis 26' sloop. Morris yachts are definitely seaworthy. Get a nice deep keel. Talk to a lot of experts. Take a navigation course (Power squadron). Go to the library and get the sailing magazines (Sail, Cruising World) and read them from cover to cover. Get ready to spend a LOT of money! That was the most rewarding time of our lives. We still talk about that time in our lives, and even though we still sail on the Great Lakes, we haven't lived on a boat in over 20 years. Best of luck to you!
