The thing about clownfish is that they are a type of Damsel fish.  Damsel fish are known to be very hardy but they can also become buttheads too.  They begin to pick on smaller less aggressive fish.  So it is best to choose a fish that is not too small and on the more aggressive side. I good suggestion is a flame hawkfish. They have a character of their own.
