  1. The finer the sandpaper than better.

Best to use a 120 or 150 grit paper and you'll also want to put it on a sanding pole as it is better to sand in longer strokes and you will see less scratches when you paint. It is also alot easier on the arms and faster, especially if they are large areas that you're woking on. Good luck.

  2. Hi there,

I really enjoy doing diy projects and as a result I have done lots of drywall sanding in my time.

When I sand drywalls I use 80 grit sandpaper. I find it gives you a good smooth finish without clogging up like the finer grit sandpaper tends to do.

Don't forget to close doors and cover things before you start sanding. The fine dust goes everywhere and is really hard to clean up. Before I start sanding I try to remove as many things out of the room that I can and put a damp towel at the base of the closed door.

Below is a chart of the types of sandpaper grits.

40-60   Coarse   Heavy sanding and stripping, roughing up the surface.

80-120 Medium Smoothing of the surface, removing smaller imperfections and marks.

150-180 Fine Final sanding pass before finishing the wood

220-240 Very Fine Sanding between coats of stain or sealer.

280-320 Extra Fine Removing dust spots or marks between finish coats

360-600 Super Fine Fine sanding of the finish to remove some luster or surface blemishes and scratches.

  3. depending on how much wall area. a 100 grit will quickly turn into 120, then 150 as it clogs with sanded debris.Any of these is fine

  4. um,

it dosen't matter to much the rougher it is the more line you'll be able to see and if its to smooth it on't do much so find something in the happy medium

    mabey a 120-150 grit.

  5. drywall sanding pads(feels like a sponge) are sold at any d.i.y stores.

  6. If you are asking about sanding drywall joint compound, you don't use sandpaper on that, use sanding screen, it dosen't clog. Attach the screen to the pad that comes with a pole sander and use less pressure as you get closer to the finish depth.
