What kind of satellite dish does the DirecTV Choice Package use?

DirecTV will not tell on their website which satellite the choice Package uses.

Do all the satellite dishes work the same?

Do I need a specific dish?

  1. it depends on the additional programming you get AND the local market you live in.

Some markets only require that you have a 3 LNB dish (meaning they get information from three satellite locations in the sky). You would then get all of the main programming and your locals (assuming they're available) from the three sets of DirecTV satellites that handle the bulk of the programming. Your locals (if they're available) would have to come off one of those three satellites, as well.

If, however, you subscribe to HD programming, or you live in one of the local markets that's been transitioned to one of the new satellites (they launched two last year), then you will need the 5 LNB dish.

If you want some more help with determining it, I'm afraid I don't know where to find all the information, but I do know that the guys on the DirecTV tech forums (a user-to-user forum) can help you out a whole bunch.

    Good luck.

  2. No you dont need special dish...You will need just a standard 1,3 LNB dish..If you get HD..then you will get a 5 LNB Dish

  3. I don't think the standard digital packages have a different satellite or dish.  The HD package does require a 5LNB dish which is pointed in a different direction/satellite than the standard dish.
