I'm a freshman this year and a good saxophone player. My old saxophone helped me win a lot of contests and awards but marching band wasn't good for it. It is broke and can't be fixed.

I want my new one to be a good one so maybe somebody can help me!

I had a: Selmer Bundy II

It was a great student saxophone and had a nice sound and rich tone.

I want my new saxophone to be really good too and I'm hoping to take this opportunity to move up to an Intermediate saxophone.

Please help me!!

  1. My brother has saxophone too. He always like to choose the best brand name in saxophone.

  2. Yamaha make pretty well-respected saxes; personally I play a Yanigasawa which I like.  Are you looking to buy new?  There are some wonderful old Selmer Paris saxes out there, but you'd need to be pretty careful as there are also some duds - if you find a Selmer Paris that you like (the Mark VI ones are the legendary ones, played by many famous players) make sure you get it checked out properly before you buy it.  I've heard good things about Cannonball saxes, and also LA saxes but have not played either brand myself.  I'd suggest taking your current reed and mouthpiece setup down to a local music store and trying a few different instruments - each player is different and it's hard to know what will suit you!  Playing a few will give you a good idea of what you like and what works for you.

  3. Get a really quiet one.  My neighbour plays sax (none too well)

    Drives me nuts

  4. The brands I would recommend are Selmer and Yamaha. Now when it comes to which specific one you should get,  it all depends on the player and what kins of sound you like.Try this website to compare and read reviews that people wrote about a specific model. When you find some that you are interested in, go to a music store so you can physically try them out.
