What kind of security is there at Amtrak Stations?

I'm wondering because I keep hearing that they're increasing security and so on... And I want to know if I can sneak a bottle of rum on the train to take home (I'm not 21, obviously). It would be great if you could avoid telling me not to drink. kthxbai

  1. I was just at Penn Station there was none.

  2. I think itss all hogwash amtrak has a lot stations

that are just stops out in the middle of nowhere

lake take  williams JCT for a example)

this is is a stop for the Cheif but all its is a small platorm

and some payphones and very small parking lot

    and thats it..

    no secuirty checks

they probally have other station where he station  is closed

when the train comes in as well

okay yes you might be able to sneak some rum in but

what would you do when the conductor comes by and see

    you drinking?

  3. According to news, Amtrak passengers will have to submit to random screening of carry-on bags in a major new security push that will include officers with automatic weapons and bomb-sniffing dogs patrolling platforms and trains, the railroad planned to announce Tuesday.

There will be police ridding the train.

This is similar to NYPD that does ransom check at NYC Subway Station.

  4. There IS increased security at Amtrak stations and on board the trains, and if you were caught you could be in big trouble.  Being taken off the train in the middle of nowhere to spend the night in some small-town lockup wouldn't be a great experience.

The bottom line is that it's not worth the risk.

  5. I live in New York City and our security is getting tighter .  Today there was a bombing at a recruitment center in Times Square which shut down Times Square for awhile.

At the train stations (Penn Station for example) there are police with guns.  You dont have to sneak the rum.  Dont make a big deal about it.  Chances are they will not stop you.

  6. Still lax.

The answer above about some stations being in the middle of nowhere is correct.  Even in the terminals, I am told at larger facilities they are randomly inspecting baggage.

They aren't looking for your jug.  Obviously you don't need to be told not to drink, but try to keep your head out of the toilet on the trip.  The best view is out the window...  or the ladies in the lounge car...  but ya gotta be awake to see either.  If suspected or appearing to be drunk, the Conductor will put you off the train into the waiting arms of the authorities.

This applies to all, whether of age or not.
