I am going to a birthday party this weekend and I am in charge of the kids games. I want to give each kid a see thru cup, potting soil, and a seed to plant as an activity, but I don't know what kind of seeds I can give that will grow fast and in a small cup. Does anyone have ideas?

  1. Lima beans.

  2. My kids always loved drawing faces on styrofoam cups and planting grass seed.  They sprout in about 7 days, and can be made into mohawks, crew cuts, or full-blown wild hair.

  3. Beans are a good one, also sunflowers- the pre-K and kindergarten classes at my school did both of these and had a blast! A fun thing to do is put the kind of plant on a notecard, glue the notecard to the popsicle stick, and stick it in the soil, gives it more of a "garden" feel, and they know what they are growing!

  4. Bean seeds grow really fast in small cups. We did one in science this year and it grew full in about 1 1/2 weeks. Just don't overwater it or forget to water it!!

  5. Zenias are very easy to grow and can be put in a cup of potting soil.

  6. been or sunflower!

  7. well if you want fast I would do some kind of bean seeds or a small flower seed.

  8. Marigolds.  They are very tough and the kids can transplant them in their own gardens.

  9. loblolly pines! and long leaf if you wanna get technical! contact your local forester for anymore necessary information! go brenda!

  10. Beans or peas of any kind are great for this.  Corn is good, too.

You want seeds that are large enough to see and handle easily, and that will germinate quickly.
