The 12 gauge shotgun is a manually operated (pump), repeating shotgun, with a seven-round tubular magazine, ghost ring sights, and equipped with a bayonet attachment and sling swivels. The shotgun is used for guard duty, prisoner supervision, riot control, or any situation requiring the use of a weapon in close quarters. Various models of shotgun are used by all services. 8. They don't use shotguns a lot because they just don't kill the people with OIL fast enough.   Cruise missles and 'smart' bombs are so much better.

Only Cheney plays with shotguns, when he goes out to kill small birds for fun.  And of course, on a slow bird day he likes to shoot people in the face too, but what the hey..

  10. The shotguns that are currently in service today by the U.S. Armed Forces:

    M1014

    KAC Masterkey

    Mossberg 500 & 590

    Remington 870

    Winchester 1200

    Winchester 1300

Of these, only the M1014 is a semi-automatic shotgun. The others are pump action.

They're also experimenting with the XM26 Lightweight Shotgun System (may replace the Masterkey since they perform the same function), which is essentially a shotgun attachment for the M16/M4 family of assault rifles.
