She lives..kinda out in the woods.

We were barefoot, and i stepped on a snake.

We live in west virginia,

The snake was black with gray rings around it..about an inch apart.

My mom said it was probably a copperhead..but i looked it up and they dont look like that..i dont think? im not sure.

so..anyone know what kinda snake it could have been?

  1. Sounds like an eastern or common king snake. Did he look anything like this....http://www.marshall.edu/herp/Snakes/King...

  2. It sounds like a king snake or a black rat snake. Neither are venomous and both eat other animals that are considered pests. It still may have been something else though, so be careful! But google king snake and black rat snake and go to images and you might be able to identify it.

  3. If it was black with white rings i would say eastern king snake.

  4. Be very careful... WV is prime Rattlesnake country and August is prime snake month... they will be all over and very active...espcially around rocks... I have a hunting cabin very near Box Canyon, and they are everywhere this time of year...although you obviously stepped on a harmless snake, watch out for the Rattlers......

  5. (Lampropeltis getula) also known as the eastern kingsnake.  It is the snake that best fits the the description and location.  There pattern can vary quite a bit.  From white ringed, grayish ringed, to almost solid black.  Harmless snake.  Will bite at first but tames real easy.
