Are there cobras there? Do they sneak indoors? We'll be in the Mekong Delta area, near Ben Tre and then back to Saigon. I'm also freakish about lizards and spiders! Yikes!

  1. Dr. Tommy Skelton here.  I have spent several years in the Southeast Asian region (Vietnam, Thailand, etc.) and can say from first hand experience and knowledge that there are a large variety of snakes, spiders, scorpions and lizards in Vietnam.  Including the Asian Cobra, a smaller version of the species.  They do sometimes enter homes looking for food, but unless injuried or cornered (threatened) they are not normally agressive, as the Indian cobras are.  Stay out of their way and they try to stay out of yours. There are a great deal of "water snakes", all are shy and usually have no venom.  There are scorpions although they are rare, the lizards are none poisionious but some do bite.  There are many spiders and some can produce a painfull bite, but overall the "garden" type are very usefull.  The larger the population, the smaller the threat of intruders.  You should have no problem if you just keep your eyes open and your wits about, just like at home.

  2. Ha ha, you have very funny questions

When will you go to Vietnam? I think that you can answer the question when you'll come there. Why are you afraid of them?

You can eat all kind of snakes in most of restaurants in Vietnam and they are very delicious. So there are no more snakes in your house or in town. Maybe there are some snakes in forest but you won't see them indoor.

About lizards and spiders, there are some in the place where you will live. But they eat mosquito so noone kills them. They are useful Insects. Mosquito is more terrible. ^_^
