  1. If you're just learning, you really shouldn't buy a board right now, just rent one from the mountain. Why? Because once you start to get the feel of it after you've gone a couple times, you'll know what kind of board you want, then you can buy a decent board of that type. 350 dollars isn't going to get you even a halfway decent board+boots+bindings setup that you'll like. You should rent until you know what you like, for example, a freestyle board vs. a freeride board, demo a few boards at a demo shop, then come back to the board market after you know what to look for. Don't just listen to other people's advice, it's very much a personal preference.

Just fyi, Burton is probably the best snowboard company you could buy from. They are more pricey than others, but the build quality is worth it and they'll last you many good seasons. I learned on a Burton Clash, and I loved that board back then. It's a good beginner board.

  2. Burtons are my favorite, but they can be pretty pricey new. If youre just starting out maybe you should look for a used board (theyre a heck of a lot cheaper) . I would try craislist.com and go under sporting goods.

  3. I would strongly recommend you don't buy a snowboard if your just learing, you never know, you may not enjoy it. Most places have rental boards which you should use until you know that you'll commit to the sport. That's what I did, and I bought my first board when I was about level 3/4.

  4. Thats is your choice but here are some great brands that have moderatly priced decks

    K2

    Rome

    GNU

    Lib Tech

You can also find board and binding packages @ ccs.com zumies.com.   theclickworldwide.com     GOOD luck

P.S. The Rome artifact is a nasty deck and is right around 350..   Any of the lo end burton stuff is not worth buying

  5. Good brands:

Freestyle (park): Rome, Forum, K2, Gnu, Lib Tech

    Freeride (runs): Ride, K2, Burton
