Is anti-bacterial soap ok to use before handling contacts? what about just the regular liquid soap? fragerance soap? mild fragarance soap?

I heard the wrong type of soap can damage your eye and give you an eye infection

  1. Use an antibacterial soap only, and dry your hands well with a lint free cloth. You want to make sure you got all of the germs off of your hands and that is the best way to assure that.

  2. Soap without fragrance is best, also without any added ingredients for skin conditioning, etc. I personally use anti-biotic soap, and usually lather and rinse twice (because I tend to get my hands quite dirty due to my job).

There are special "contact lens" soaps you can buy, but mostly they are just a fragrance-free anti-biotic soap that has additives to help prevent your hands from drying out. The most important thing for using any soap with contacts is making sure you rinse REALLY well before doing anything with your eye or handling the contacts.
