Question:

What kind of soil for a raised bed in the shade?

I just built a new raised bed with bricks. 2 ft high & about 40 ft long. It runs along my house. It looks great. Now I have to fill it with good dirt. What are my choices? I really can't afford to fill it all with expensive potting soil. Any suggestions out there? Thanks in advance.

  1. The best soil is a loam or 'top soil'.  You can usually get a load (about 13 cubic yards) delivered for about $100 - $150.
