  1. The only legal way a school can give accoms and mods for this is that the child HAS to be recieveing special ed services (IEP plans)  or have a 504 plan.

If a child does not have either of these the school does not have to do anything.

Sometimes teachers are nice and will do these things WITHOUT an IEP or 504 plan , but they can stop at any time, the next year teacher can decide not to do these things and you can't do a thing about it.

But with IEP or 504 plan the school will be mandated by FEDERAL law to do these things and CAN NOT stop.

The parent can suggest and request what they think their child needs, it is NOT all up to the school.

WIth a 504 or IEP plan, the parent is an EQUAL member of the childs team and has a legal right to request what they want their child to help.

If the school refuses what the parent wants there are legal requirements that the parent and school must follow.

And, the parent does NOT have to agree to what the school wants to do for the child if they feel it is not best for their child.

  2. As mentioned they can be very different for each student depending on the child's needs. Here are some ideas.

    1. Seating the student near the teacher and away from doors and windows. This helps the child stay focused on the teacher.

    2. Allowing a student to tape-record assignments. Kids with ADD tend to have trouble remembering spoken instructions.

    3. Providing the child with a note-taking partner. ADHD-related handwriting problems can make it hard to keep up when taking notes.

    4. Giving a lighter homework load. This is appropriate for children with ADD who struggle to get their homework done. The questions are just as hard - there are just fewer of them.

    5. Granting extra time for test-taking. The idea is not to make the exam "easier" for the child but to level the playing field, by providing sufficient time for the child to show what he knows.

    6. Letting the student run occasional errands for the teacher. This can help hyperactive kids burn off some energy.

  3. It depends on whether or not the 7th grader requires any special accommodations.  There are thousands of students with ADD and ADHD who attend school without receiving any accommodations because they don't require them.  The student must demonstrate that their ADHD is negatively impacting their education to the extent in which those accommodations are needed.

  4. I have ADD and when I was in 7th grade back in 1995-1996 I went to resourse room which was at the end of the day.  I would go there with other special education children and we would get help on our home work and other stuff.

They can send your child to a separet room for untimed testing too, so that they can take their time when taking a test.

There is a lot more they can do I just can't remember it right now.  Just so you know if they say they can't do it and you know they can push for it because they will try to keep accomidations from you.

I remember when they told me I had to repeat the first grade our principle didn't want me to stay back because he said it was too much money, but my parents and teacher faught to keep me back and they had to.

  5. Depends on the individual student's plan.
