  1. Witches cast spells for the same reasons some people pray-to provoke a positive change in their lives.  However, we don't cast them like they're portrayed in the movies; true magick is slow and works with nature.

Witches wanting to make a positive change will cast spells to help heal the sick, find a new job for either themselves or someone else, to help things run smoothly when buying a house, for assistance in times of financial distress.  There are lots of reasons to cast spells but most witches use this as a last resort and try mundane methods before using spells.  The basic principality of witchcraft is that what you send out there, you get back times 3.  So you have to be sure your intentions are good and pure or else you won't be happy with the aftermath.  Nature always keeps a balance of her own.

    Hope this helps.  Blessed Be!

  2. Witches create spells as a means of helping themselves achieve a goal.

Real magic is not like all the hocus-pocus in the movies. A real spell would be making an herbal tea and saying a blessing over it for a sore throat, or meditating on a blue candle to calm yourself.

A lot of magic is psychological... lets say I need to take a test. Before the test, I might cast a spell. I'd burn an orange candle (orange stimulates the brain and helps us think and focus better), I'd also burn rosemary incense (does the same thing). I would meditate-- visualize myself taking the test, the answers coming easy to me, getting it back with a passing grade (this puts me in a positive state of mind to take the test).

Of course, I would also have to study-- magic doesn't do things for you. It's not instant gratification. It's mental discipline.
