What kind of spider could be in my house?

Question

A couple days ago I saw this big spider, I think a little bigger than a half dollar and it was on the outside of my house on the screen of a window so I splash it with water and it fell off. Today I saw it in my house and I tried to kill it , but it fell off the wall and on the ground and ran away. What kind could it have been? I don't think it was a brown recluse, but I guess you never know. Any other ideas?

There is an awful lot of big spiders in the world.  What country are you in, what state? What besides big did it look like?  What color?.

It was definitely not a brown recluse, those rarely get very big and they hide in closets (not a nice habit).  It's harmless for sure and most likely a wolf spider.
