My Mom just informed me that yesterday while she was here watching my kids she killed a HUGE spider in my kitchen (yes, comforting, I know). I'm so freaked out now as I have a little one who crawls everywhere and am wondering if it could be poisonous. I don't have a picture unfortunately, but my Mom described it to be "as large as or larger than a silver dollar" and it was brown and fat and hairy and had a cream colored stripe down the center of it's back. If it helps, I'm located in south central VA. Please help!

  1. Closest I can think of is a kind of fishing spider, /Pisaurina mira/.

Like most spiders, they are not dangerous.  In fact, I might have been bitten by one when I was boating and dragging my hand in the water.  I felt a sting in my hand and saw the spider swim away on the top of the water, probably scooped it up accidentally and made it panic.  The bite left a little bump that lasted a day or two, and didn't really hurt.

  2. I am not sure but you should check out these sites, to be sure.
