I live near Longmont, Colorado, and I was increasingly worried because this new, odd looking spider came out of nowhere and now all the other previous inhabitants of my basement (wolf spiders, milipedes, crickets, etc) are gone and the invasive spiders seem to be poisonous because of their bright colors and aggressive nature.

  1. I think "woodlouse spider" nailed it.  I see a lot of spider ID questions with pretty much the same description.  Although they can give a painful bite due to their long powerful fangs, they are otherwise harmless and non-aggressive.  The long powerful fangs are adaptations to pierce the hard shells of rollie pollies.

Also, color is not an indication of aggressiveness or toxicity in arachnids.  In fact, all of the so called "poisonous" spiders are a very drab black or brown color, and most of them are considered shy.
