That guy was right, they can only see about a foot or less around them and they are known to jump alot. I've never seen one bite though, they probably do.

Gary nailed it.  This is probably the most asked about spider, as I have answered 4-5 spider ID questions with nearly identical descriptions in the past month.

The bold jumper or /Phidippus audax/.

These spiders can give a painful bite, like a wasps sting, if you manage to provoke it, but generally do not require more first aid than what a wasp sting would normally require.
