Ok, well me and my dad were cleaning our pool today, and when he took out the filter, there was a huge spider in it!

It is grayish with some white, and on the bottom of its legs on its joints there is orange (its legs are black). Its body is probably 1- 1 1/2 inches long... and its legspan probably 2-3 inches. It also has really huge fangs, which are also orange/black... and was cleaning them or something...

It is also kind of furry looking... do you think this is a baby tarantula???

Also, i live in southwest missouri, if that helps (and they do live in this area)

If you need any more info on it, just ask...

and here are a few pics... sorry they arent that great, my phone takes crappy pictures (i was also afraid to get too close to it lol)

  1. your photo links don't work..

if wolf spiders are common in your area.. you probably don't live in a place that has tarantulas

    american southwest?

yeah douchebags.. i was asking if she lived in the southwest (which encompasses arizona) and the rest of the US is basically devoid of tarantulas..

such as here in illinois.. no tarantulas, but plenty of wolfs..

had you let her answer my question and me finish her's.. instead of giving me three thumbs down.. i could have pointed that out.. no you all jump the gun and f*** me over.. that's why we have an edit button and the ability to add info to our questions.. to ask/answer follow-up questions.. thank you all..  dumb pricks..

from the pics you've given it does appear to be tarantular..

im no expert but i imagine if they are all classified as wolf spiders they'd all look somehwat alike.. from my understanding.. that's no wolf spider

researcht eh specific kinds of tarantula around your area and compare.. it definatley looks like a tarantula to me.. of one sort or another

  2. That's not true, I live in AZ and we have plenty of Tarantulas and Wolf Spiders.

  3. A small answer to a lengthy question -

  4. Well, there are over 200 species in the family of wolf spiders called Lycosidae in North America, so it might be a different type of wolf spider than your used to seeing.

However, it could also be a close relative of the wolfies.. in the same Superfamily.  This includes Nursery web spiders, wandering spiders, false wolf spiders, and a few other families in North America alone.

Don't worry, none of these are dangers.  While the famous Brazilian wandering spider is in this superfamily, they are endemic to South America and their North American relatives are not as dangerous.

I would need a better picture, particularly of the eyes, to give more info.
