We found this huge yellowish, brown spider with stripes on its legs in our back yard. Is it poisonous?

Does anyone know what kind of spider this is?

  1. I'm not really a spider person but I think I have seen one of these before.  A friend told me it was a pumpkin spider.

All spiders are venomous, just some more than others.

  2. I saw that kind of spider up between two trees. They are  GINORMOUS!

I don't think it is poisonous. But they are soooo big that they are terrifying to Arachnophobes like me!

  3. it might be a banded garden spider, or a type of tiger spider, probably male.

if you need answers to questions like this, go to entomology sites, they tend to be great for it!

  4. Learn to ID  it with the help of these sites and even if you do not find what you are looking for you will be able to ID any other in the future -

  5. Looks like an orb weaver.  It has venom, but not life threatening to humans.

  6. Its hard to see from the pics,  but it could be an immature, or male Black Widow.

All spiders have venom, so technically they are all poisonous.   too some extent, but even black widow bites are rarely fatal
