  1. Like the caption underneath says

    It's a weird spider.

    Sorry, could not help that

  2. there is no way in h**l im opening that link

  3. All spiders have 8 eyes in total.

as this has 2 bigger forward facing ones its a hunting spider (Wolf Spider) rather than a web based one.

the picture doesn't show the body so its impossible to work out what type of spider it is.

but its an 8-eyed wolf spider of some sort.

  4. It looks like some variety of jumping spider, and it has eight eyes.

  5. Ick, bleugh,

all spiders have eight eyes. I can answer that.

  6. o my god that is vile, i hope its not been found in the uk xxxxx

    p.s it has 8 eyes x

  7. Nice find!  It looks like a female /Lyssomanes viridis/, common name "Magnolia Green Jumper", and it does have eight eyes, like all jumping spiders (four in the front, two on the side, two on the back).  This species shows strong sexual dimorphism (males and females of the same species looking different).  Males have huge and colorful tusk-like chelicera ("jaws/fangs"), probably to help impress the ladies.

You were right about not all spiders having 8 eyes.  Of the Araneomorph spiders, which are most of the spiders you see around and have "pinching fangs", there are two clads;  Entelegynes or "eight eyed spiders" and Haplogynes or "six eyed spiders", but that isn't exclusive as cellar spiders (family pholcidae) are "six eyed spiders", but some genera have eight eyes and some have six.  Also some Araneomorph spiders have two or four eyes, and are grouped according to ancestry.

It is most certainly not a wolf spider.  My avatar shows the eye pattern of wolf spiders.

  9. I don't know where you heard or read that "any" true spider can have less than 8 eyes, but I believe that's wrong.  To my knowledge, all spiders have 8 eyes.

That spider is a wonderful species of Jumping Spider.  I've worked with and photographed many species of these terrific animals.  They are extremely fascinating and interesting in their behavior.  Some of them can be quit beautiful with colors of red, orange, blue, pink, black, white, green, etc.  Some are very tiny while others are larger, but none are huge.  Some of the males have an interesting courtship dance they do by waving their front legs in air in front of the female.

Jumping Spiders do not spin ornate webs, but do use silk for anchoring onto plants and for constructing their egg cases.  They catch their insect prey by sneaking up on it or waiting for it, then leap through the air onto their food.

Unlike all other spiders, within the two great eyes in the front of their heads, they can actually shift the retinas around to track their prey.

Jumping Spiders are wonderful creatures, and great subjects for macro photography.  They are harmless to humans.

Without spiders we could not exist.  They help to keep our planet healthy and strong by controlling the insect populations.  In  your garden, they feed upon Flies, Gnats, Cockroaches, Termites, Crickets, Mosquitoes, etc., etc..

  10. Those girls' answers made me laugh so hard I cried.  Well, anyway.  My first impression was jumping spider.  Then I noticed it seemed really tiny, light colored, and it's sitting on a flower, right?  There are lots of different weird little spiders that live in flowers.  They match the flower so they can hide easily and jump out and catch whatever bug comes to drink nectar.  They're completely harmless to us.  Jumping spiders can leave a bruise if they bite though.

  11. You checked Lynx Spiders? They're kinda tiny and have hairs on their legs like spikes. Lotsa those are nice green colour. Seen a few yellow ones too. flikr is blocked in this country, so I can't see the photo. Need more details

  12. it is a species of jumping spider, and has eight eyes.

these are harmless to humans. they are a smaller spider, and feed

    mostly on aphids.
