What kind of spider is yellow with a black stripe on its back?

This spider was really BIG! Its legs were really long too.

  1. Sounds like a garden spider.  I used to find them everywhere out in the tall grass back behind my house when I lived in Indiana.  Most where atleast 2 inches in length.  Hope this helps.

  5. It's called the Argiope, garden spider, scribble spider, or zipper spider. I've heard that the "scribble" is so birds don't fly into the webs and ruin them, but that may just be a myth. They're harmless, just large and terrifying to arachnophobes. (If you're an arachnophobe, don't click on the links. Lots of pictures of big spiders.)

  6. probably a golden orb weaver, which is called a banana spider but is not. they are harmless where the true banana spider is fatally poisonous. the silk of a golden orb weaver is the strongest natural substance on earth, and lb for lb its even stronger than steel. amazing really.
