What kind of spider was this?

Ok this is going to sound pretty stupid and vague as I don't have a pic, but my mate found this MASSIVE spider in his bathroom- like literally the size of his hand (including legs) it was brown and its body was like half the size of his palm.

This was in London!

Ive just moved here and am freaking out, was it like a tarantula or something?

Do you have many poisonus spiders over here?

I can almost positively tell you that it was a wolf spider. We have them at our house all the time.
