  1. get metal spikes that are 1/4 inch. if you can find a sprint shoe like the adistar sprint (adidas) or nike zooms then the correct  spikes for you

  2. it really depends on your age and determination.  Most M.S. say no longer thatn 1/4 of an inch (.25), but i bought ones that were 3/8 (.30) and nobody would ever notice.  For your race the bigger the better if you are used to running with low support.  Try a 3/8 if you are in high school and go bigger once it becomes comfortable.  Good luck =)

  3. This is a really good question for your coach...

For High School, if your program does not provide spikes, the rules for spike type, number, and length will vary by state.

For NCAA, the venue (site of the meet) generally dictates spike rules (plus, your program should be supplying spikes).

In general though, here are recommendations for different conditions in the 100/200m

Indoor Track: 3/16" - 1/4" Steel or Aluminum Needles

The reason that Needles are usually better indoors is that many indoor tracks are rolled surfaces (like Mondo Super X) that must be penetrated by the sharp needle for best traction.

Outdoor Track: 3/16" -1/4" Steel or Aluminum Pyramids

The reason here is that many outdoor tracks are sprayed, bumpy surfaces that you need to compress for best traction.
