Question:

What kind of sport bike should be my first?

I have never rode a motorcycle before and I plan on purchasing a used Kawasaki Ninja 500R as my first bike. Does this sound like a good starter bike (older model of course) to buy first? I plan on taking the class, but is there any other way to learn before I take the class since you have to ride your back to the class? Like anyone who first started, did you ride it a few times first then go to the class, thanks.

  1. None.

Sport bikes are not good starter motorcycles.

I applaud your decision to take a training class.

Sport bikes are soooo good and sooo fast it is sooo easy to ride waaay beyond your abilities.  That is the reason insurance on sport bikes is so high if you are under 21 years of age.

I for one learned to ride motorcycles in the dirt before venturing onto the asphalt.  I also had a 6 years of driving experience both in my own vehicles and with work trucks.

As of today I have yet to go down with any of my road bikes.  That has been 30 years of riding.

  2. I think a 500 ninja isn't a bad choice. I just started riding this spring also. I did take the MSF safety course first, and HIGHLY recommend it to anyone, new or vet to riding.

I started on a ninja 250 and am already bored and upgrading....so i think a 500 should be reasonable.

just take the class first, and do what makes you comfortable.

    Happy riding!
