I want to attach coaxial cable and run it all over the house. There is a special type of nail that is U shaped. What kind of gun and staples do I need for this?

  1. To avoid the crimping of the coax by clumsy fastening there is an alternative not needing staples. There are coax cable clamps which have the U-shape where the cable goes and a hammer-in nail that is  on the little plastic piece away from the U-shaped section.

It sort of looks like this in cross-section with the I I marking where the nail is  and the U shape being where the cable goes.. A box of them is cheap and available at Lowe's, Radio Shack, etc.

  2. There is a "Swingline" model which handles several different type of staples.

I forget the model number but they have one for round telephone cable and the next size up is for coaxial cables.

Check your local home center in the tool department and the attendant will tell you which one you need - They are very common - I understand they even have electric ones as well.

  3. I assume you are talking about those standard coax staples. If you are doing it only once in your house, then all you need is just a hammer. Hammer down the staples every few feet and be careful not to crimp the coax. Crimps or kinks tend to severely degrade your signal!
