I have 2 Power Acoustik FUBR 12" subs with 1800 watts and an 1800 watt amplifier. I had both hooked up in my car before, but it was just too much and my trunk rattled really loud. I want to put just one of the subs in, but I don't know what kind of box is best for it. Sealed? ported? bandpass? I don't know what any of that is. Any advice? Oh also, I put dynamat in my trunk but that stuff doesn't work...What else can I do to minimize the rattling outside my car?

  1. get  a sealed box . as far as the rattle add more layers

  2. It depends on what sound you are looking for as well as what the manufacturer recommends.  If your sub works well in all these enclosures then choose by what sound you want.

A sealed enclosure is ideal for sound quality.  A ported enclosure will give you more output then a sealed enclosure.  The sound quality is usually reduced depending on the sub and tuning frequency of the enclosure.  Bandpass enclosures will give you even more output then a ported enclosure but only in a limited range of frequencies.  This means they are not ideal for many types of music.  They also are usually horrible for sound quality.

One way to stop rattles is to get spray foam.  Spray it into the cavities of the trunk and it will expand into all the hard to get to parts of the trunk.  It is more of an extreme option and can be kind of messy but it will definetly help with trunk rattling.

    Good Luck!!!
