What kind of supplies do I need to paint?

Me and my wife just bought our first house and she is in HGTV overload! What do I need to start painting? What kind of brushes and paint? Do I need to scrape off the paint thats there now? Please help!

You will need two kinds of sandpaper, spackle, spackle knife, drop cloths, rollers, roller covers, roller tray, one nice regular brush, and an angle brush for trimming in, it makes all the difference. And the big thing is buy the blue masking tape not the white! it is so much easier to take off. And of course the paint. And lots of good music! It helps a lot! Have Fun.

Definitely get a roller or two, but in regards to brushes, in my experience it really depends on what you're planning to paint. Like you wouldn't get a small brush to paint half a wall, but you would get it to paint that small protruding wall of wood that is directly above your carpet  (I hope you know what I'm saying, it's hard to describe that part lol). But yeah just remember to wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty in, because no matter what you will get paint on you, and get the tape that you can easily put on and take off walls, because tape will really help if you don't want to get a certain part painted on, or if you want to incorporate different colors on a wall but evenly spaced or divided.

You want lots of paint, primer, brushes, rollers. You do not have to scrap anything off unless there is wall paper. Then get a scrapper...

it depends on what you are painting. you may just need a small brush and a medium roller. are you using latex or oil based paint? you have to be a little more specific
