What kind of sushi is best for forst timers

im going with my friend to eat sushi. what kind would do you think ill like? im not a picky eater :)

many first try the california rolls (which is really not sushi), but do try any sushi with tempura or if you like cream cheese you should try the philadelphia roll (the cream cheese takes the salmons fishy taste away).

When trying raw ingredients for the first time, it may be best to try them in a roll so that you have other flavors with the fish. Salmon and tuna are both wonderful tasting fish, in a roll or by themselves.

If you like it, then move onto rolls where the fish is more pronounced, for instance a rainbow roll, or try sashimi.

If you try California Rolls first, you're going to be hooked on the cooked c**p for the rest of your life.

Go with sake (salmon, and for the love of god, not smoked, which obviously isn't raw).  Sake nigiri (the guy above didn't know the term for it, obviously... piece of something, could be fish, egg, etc., on top of a ball of rice), to be exact.  It's very creamy and yummy and buttery and good pretty much no matter where you go.  Don't get maguro (tuna) or hamachi (yellowtail) unless you go to a VERY high quality restaurant because otherwise they'll be too fishy.  Hamachi at a high quality restaurant I do highly recommend... very yummy.

Definitely start with the California Rolls to prepare for the really raw stuff, if you can you should try the beluga-it's my favorite!!!

Since you want to try raw... I would suggest the salmon on top of a bed of sushi rice. Usually they don't have nori wrapped around it, but its pretty good. Not bad. Dip it in soy sauce or wasabi, it'll help mask some of the fishy-ness, if that turns you off. Good luck!
