Hey, I have an 2002 Escalade and $1500 to spend on a new system (including installation). I was wondering what kind of subwoofers/amps i should get. I just bought some brand new speakers and deck so i have 1500 to spend on just subwoofers and amps. I want my system to slump and have heads turning whenever i come around. I love bass and too much bass isn't a problem for me.

Please help

  1. Spend the money you would have spent on installation and spoil yourself a little more. With a little electrical know-how the install isn't that hard, certainly not worth $200+ in stores. Other than that, I like JL subs and Kenwood amps. Have fun :)

  2. for the subs i recommend you go with a apir of jl audio w6 great sound quality and performance..best of all its head turning potential!!

and an amp that will power these babies without overpowering itself and the price is just right the kenwood excelon series...i have the w6 but i havent bought an amp to get the full potential out of them :(

  3. Of course, I think of a few obvious things to say to you. Let's start here..

What are you looking for as far as sound? Do you just want it totally loud, and less worried about sound quality. Or do you want it to sound great, and sacrifice some of the ~boom 'n shake~...

Either way, if you were to aim more for sound quality, it will be Loud regardless! You definately have to consider that first.

Something else you didn't specify in terms of your price range.. how do you plan to make your purchase? Online, or in a retail audio shop?

As far as the size of the sub, I personally wouldn't recommend going smaller than a 12. Actually, I would Recommend the 12. The bigger the size in subwoofer, the more the movement. The more pure lows. BUT, it also becomes slightly sloppy, and in time, I feel you would notice and possibly regret it. The 12's offer the most for an all-in-one size.

I also personally lean towards one 12(or maybe 2 in a SUV). I like to find an amp that puts out the power that I crave, and then find a sub(regardless of size) that can handle that power. I like to push it real hard, yet find one that can comfortably handle it.

Don't forget to calculate the price of a enclosure.  NEVER sell yourself short on the enclosure. Get something durable, even if it seems expensive. And always try to acomodate the specs of the sub into the enclosure.

So, no matter your decision, I think these would fit into your price range fairly well.

Rockford Fosgate Power P3, T1, or T2 (the P3's crack easily)

    RE Audio SX

    FI Audio BL

Alpine Type R or Type X (Type X for SQ)

    Eclipse SW8200

    Memphis Audio MoJo

    Boston Acoustics G5 (SQ)

    MA Audio XL

***There are others such as Adire, Treo, TC Sound, DD, Mmats, etc.

**Also, the JL W7 and the Kicker L7/L5, but expensive, and somewhat overrated. There are other things for cheaper that compare.

    Kicker zx1500.1, zx1000, sx1250.1

    MTX 1501d, 81001, ta7801

JL 1000/1 (Thet can run from 11v to 14.1v, and 1000w whther in a 4, 2, or 1.5 ohm load)

    Rockford Fosgate Power T1001bd

    Memphis Audio 16-mcd1000

I hope some of this was useful for you, and you follow thru w/ this. Sounds fun! Be sure to email me if you were still unsure and wanted better help putting them together.

  4. mr wakeup is right you can go with kicker and other known name  brands, but fi and digital designs subs are competition quality subs, so u no they will turn heads.

  5. I'd go with the new FI btl's the 12's run $389 15's $409 and 18's $439.  They're rock solid speakers that will take 2,000 watts all day long. the only drawback is they don't sell speakers in boxes you have to either custom build or buy a pre-built box for them.

and if you got to www.realmofexcursion.com and click the video tab you can see user videos of almost EVERY make and model sub on the market today.

  6. you should look into getting kicker they the best when it comes to subs check out there site, i like the l7s

  7. Personally if you want different subs rather than the normal...IE: Kicker, JL, MTX etc....try going with Fi Car Audio.  The owner of Fi Car Audio was the X-owner of RE Audio which also makes some fine subs.  I've owned both of them.  Fi BTL 12" and a RE audio x*x 12".  Also another good brand is Digital Designs subwoofers...I personally havent owned any, but heard good things.  Check out Realmofexcursions.com.  They have a forum there of which they do a This vs that subwoofer and such...you'll see some fair measurements of quality subs etc.  Of course peoples opinions and the size of the box and car makes some difference, so this is a good place to check it out!  My Single FI BTL definitely makes heads turn....Just a single 12" by itself...I hit 145db on a NON Termlabs meter.  And of which I was told was decent...I dont do any competitions or anything so I dont know....but I do know that my box is not to spec...and my box should be bigger, but I dont have the space....however it still slams!  Anyway makes my mirrors shake....and my rear view never stays clear.  I can never see out of it! hehe
