We have a small pond in our front yard. While working in the yard, my grandson said there were "swimmy things" in the pond. Thinking mosquito larvae, I told my grandson to get back and I went to look..
Lo and behold, they were much too big to be mosquito larvae.. They were tadpoles. THOUSANDs of them... As a project for my grandson, we scooped some up and put them in a bowl for him to watch change.
I wanted to find out more about them to gauge when they might start changing to frogs.. One other thing about them is they appear to have some small round "thing" on their bellys. Almost looks like a very VERY small shrivled slice of black olive.. They are also about the length of a grain of rice at this time. Maybe a bit bigger..

I realize the detail is lacking, but can anyone identify them?
Thanx
