  1. GTT (glucose tolerance test)  You drink a very sweet drink from the lab or dr office.  Then they will draw your blood to check your levels.   A1C will check what your blood sugar has been for the last 3 months.  Have you tested with a meter?

  2. Go to your physician. They basically just make you pee in a cup :-p. It's pretty easy. They test for the amount of sugar in your blood.

For an informal version, you could borrow someone's blood glucose meter. BE SURE to use a NEW needle though - don't want to spread HIV!

I'd say if your blood sugar is above 120 or so, definitely see a doctor. Keep in mind your blood sugar is naturally higher right after a meal, so don't test right then.

  3. A fingerprick test, probably fasting, would give a good indication if ydou are diabetic or going in that direction. Then other tests should follow to see how bad it is and what medication you should be on.

  4. HbA1c is a blood draw. This is becoming the test to see if a person has glucose problems. It shows the percentage of glucose molecules clinging to the red blood cells and for the past 90 to 120 days which is the average life of red blood cells. 5.5 and under is normal.

  5. They will draw your blood and test you for type 2 diabetes I know that for sure, but I'm not sure about type 1, which isn't as common as type 2.

  6. Make an appointment with your doctor and tell him you think you could be diabetic, he will know exactly what tests to do.  Make an early morning appointment because you will not be able to eat before the tests, and don't drink, either.

  7. If you even think that you might have diabetes go to a doctor or your school nurse or a public clinic and find out for sure.  To avoid having to make another visit try to go in the morning and wait to eat breakfast until after you have been tested (this is called the fasting level)

    There are 3 main tests:

Testing with a strip and a meter.. this tells what your blood sugar level is at the time the test is made (diabetics use this test every day, sometimes more than once a day)  It is a simple almost painless test that you can do at home.  You probably do not have a meter but a nurse might check it for you.

A glucose tolerance test.  A chemical test you drink a sweet fluid and then the urine is collected in a cup and tested. This must be done in a doctors office.

an a1c test (the so called gold standard of testing) a sample of blood is drawn from your arm and tested to show what your average blood sugar has been for the past few weeks. Usually given every 3 months or so. It should be given at the doctors office but there are kits for home testing at pharmacies.

Whether or not you have diabetes limit the amount of sweets and eat a balanced diet and most of all exercise every day.  Good luck

I hope you do not have it!!   ps if you are under about 18 you may have a different type of diabetes which requires a different type of treatment but the same testing.  Young people usually have a type 1 and adults usually have a type 2

  8. Fasting blood sugar is diagnostic for diabetes, it is done with a blood test taken 8-12 hours after fasting
