What kind of thing can you get to get a room REAL COLD in the summer?

Question

Not something like some little fan that blows hot air around,but something much more powerful that actually gets a room COLD, even during a heat wave in S. Ca ?

The name of the thing, and

How much does something like this cost, and is it found in the same aisle in wall mart as the fans?

Shopping by price somewhat so nothing over $200 - $300

Air conditioning is the answer.  It should be near the fans.

A window installation will cost you less than $300 and you can install it yourself.

But you should consider the room you are installing it in first.  If the room is not properly insulated to keep heat out, your air conditioner will have to work harder than it should and maybe not work as well as expected.

Check your floor, ceiling, walls, doors and windows for drafts and proper insulation.  Consider installing insulation and/or better insulated doors and windows.

You're basically looking at making your room into a fridge and you know what happens it the fridge door is left just a little bit open.

Don't do the dry ice idea.  You can die from that.

central air. it is the words smartest and best invention. trust me! we have it in our whole house that sometimes I have to wear a sweatshirt indoors during the summer =p

than place it in a porcelain bowl with some water

have the fan running while leaving the door open so the Carbon dioxide can escape, cheap and effective

A window unit.

It's a portable airconditioning unit that installs into your window.  The hot air is exhausted outside, while the cold air is blown inside.  I don't suggest Wal-Mart.  Home Depot or Lowe's would be a better bet.  The people there could explain exactly how to install these.
