  1. Anything thats legal.

  2. almost anything. old tv's / appliances, tools of all kinds, furniture, clothing, books, craft supplies, stuffed animals. Just make sure it's all clean and nothing is broken.

  3. Fishing equipment is always a big seller (at least in my area). Baby stuff -- great for yard sales. I bought a lot at yard sales, and sold most of my stuff at yard sales. Price about 20-30% of what it is worth, if it is in great condition.

Furniture is great too. Place that stuff near the curb so taht people driving by will see the "big" stuff and stop. Also, if you have lots of something specific that you are selling, advertise for free on Craig's List, including your special items. (i.e. fishing tackle, plus sized clothing, Precious moments figurines, etc.)  People who might not normally go to every garage sale but who are looking for specific things will stop in for those items.

When I was looking for things for my stepson's apartment, I would scan the ads for "furniture", and stop at those. If I drove by a garage sale, i would only really stop if I saw furniture sitting outside.

Keep in mind that you are not going to get anything "close" to what you paid. A lot of people will tell me how much they paid for it.  If you want more, then you need to put it on ebay or Craig's list individually.  A yard sale is a way to get rid of things and make some cash. Not to get rich!  I'd much rather sell it for $1 than drag it back in my house.

If you have some high-end stuff, you can try pricing it higher.. or take your chances selling it on craigslist or something. I've paid $200 for a high-end bed (king) in perfect condition at a garage sale, but only because I had been looking at beds, and I knew that this one was about a $1500 bed.

Visit some yard sales in your area and see what other people sell and what prices are good. Some will be high, and you can tell, because there won't be anything being sold. Some prices are awesome -- I bought 10 brand new rolls of that drawer liner stuff that is mesh-looking (I don't know if I'm explaining that right.... )It is about $3.99-$5.00 per roll -- for a quarter a roll! I can always use that stuff... we lined all our cabinets and drawers with this, and it keeps stuff from sliding around.

The best way to know what sells is to visit some yourself. Plus, you might find some treasures!

  4. We sell things we no longer need or use. This way we get rid of them and make a little money too. Example..tools,toys,cloths,TV,radios ect.

  5. Any thing and everything  but some stuff does better than others.

Furniture, jewelry [even junk jewelry], kitchen stuff, clean kids toys, locks, any sort of tools, vintage post cards , Vintage 33 records rock and roll etc.

Clothing - if clean and just before the season might go...and sometimes kids stuff, especially baby stuff will go.

I have found that old computers tend to just sit there but that could be because this is 'tech alley' and most people want the newest and latest.

Put it all out there....get good signage - really BIG lettering

YARD SALE TODAY -  200 feet ahead. = on main road

or YARD SALE TODAY - TURN RIGHT 200 FEET ahead.

YARD SALE SAT/SUN at 20 PIKE STREET [these on lead in roads]

and I have found it worth taking 1 ad the day before the sale eg. Friday's paper or Thurs. fri...works since that is when the people who are 'yard salers' plot their excursion.

Price low - its a yard sale! and stuff will move. Price close to what the stuff is really worth and you will carry much of it back in the house.

There are some good books - usually have 'garage sale' in title.- oh, have lots of change and lock all the doors to your house....sometimes people use yard sales as a way to case a potential break in.

Hope you make lots of $$$.
