Im starting a daycare in my home. Im going to start slow with just my 9 month old daughter and my friends 13 month old. We have locks on our cabinets and covers over the outlets. We have a baby gate that will keep the kids in the living room and play room. What things should I know ahead of time about 13 month olds. She has been walking since she was 8 months old so she can get around pretty fast.

  1. My daughter is 13 months old and here are a few things she is starting to become interested in:

    music/dancing

books-she loves to be read to

    riding toys

    big chunky Lego's

Little People-Noah's Ark and the farm are what we currently have.

We have so much fun with her right now. Everything is so interesting to her. Like your friend's daughter, she can get around pretty fast!

Enjoy your new daycare!! You are lucky to be able to work from home!! Good luck :)

  2. As she is walking she is taller, so can reach plants ornaments tvs everything, "no" will be the first word you will have to teach her if she hasn't been taught that yet!

  3. Lets see.... My son, who is 15 months now, was into computer cords, climbing onto furniture, petting the cat(i.e grabbing her tail)and pulling all the books off the bookshelf. He loved the remote and anything with buttons. Good luck you will have your hands full.

  4. Anything and Everything. My son would climb furniture to get to things so if you have anything in reach like pictures on the wall, move them or take them down. I would even remove any end tables or coffee tables because they can get hurt on them.  watch out for cords. anything that might tip over and hurt them.  . They are determined little things so make the area as open and clear of anything that is not a toy. You might need to invest in some latches for the door just incase she can open a door. good luck.

  5. A 13 month old gets into everything!!!! I am not exgaterating.  In the living room do not put cups on the endtables, remove the coffee table.  get on your hands and knees and crwal around and look up.  If it something they do not need to play with, they will.  Have fun

  6. Learn to control your anger now, cuz when the 13 month old hurts your 9 month old, your going to get pretty upset with the little angel.  The question should be :  What do they not get into?

  7. Good luck!  I agree with all the answers so far, and also beware of climbing.  IF she's not climbing yet, she will be soon, so beware of that in your set-up.  I think it sounds lik eyou're doing a good job though, and as long as they're always in sight they will be fine.  I had our kids in a home daycare where the family lived in a split level house.  What they actually did was built out their garage, replaced the garage door with a sliding door, and make that the actual daycare area.  It actually worked really well because the kids had a place of their own.  She split the room in to 3 areas with 1/2 walls.  One area for older kids, one area for the babies, and then the eating area.  She actually had 2 employees as well (and about 12 kids) and it was a wonderful place for our kids ! Good luck withyours!
