What kind of tile do you use for kitchen countertops?

  1. Well whatever you use make sure not to use porcelain, limestone, travertine, or marble. They are either too soft and too porous and are bad news for kitchens. Ceramic tiles would be your best choice. They may not be as dramatic or stylish, but they will hold up and look better than laminate counter tops.  


  2. I don't understand what Denise means by porcelain, granite, and other material are too porous.  Any tiles (including ceramic tiles) you put on a counter will need to be sealed since stains could develop in grouted areas.  Depending on the ceramic tile you select, "hand made" tiles may cause spillage due to the unevenness of the finished product.  Other materials available are glass, wood and metal tiles as well.
