What kind of toys would a 9 year old like??

In my experience, 9-year olds (both girls and boys) are generally ready for a wide range of toys.  They are often very active and will enjoy video games and electronic toys of all types, sports equipment, scooters, frisbees, r.c. cars etc.

They may still be attracted to imagination-play items like action figures but will be best challenged by something you construct like Lego sets (there's a huge selection out there), Erector sets, art kits etc.  They aren't too young for many kid-friendly chemistry sets, telescopes and microscopes as well.

Kids this age usually have a strong sense of personal tastes... check with their family or friends for their interests and hobbies.  Pokemon?  Music (iTunes gift card etc.)? Clothes? Make-up?

Star Wars toys, there really cool!!!! im 14 and steall collect and set them up.

video games, maybe a set where he can set up and build things (like invent structures), something sporty (like a nice jersey)

no other clothes (especially socks!)

game cube... little kids love it!  get like pokemon( if they are into it) or like mario bros   who doesn't like that?
