What kind of training can I expect to do to become a public beach lifeguard?

The beach is in the gulf of mexico and hardly ever high surf. I would like an opinion maybe from a current beach lifeguard or beach patrol. Im 26, male, very strong swimmer, in great shape but just need to know what to do to be ahead of the game when trying out.

Just  from what I have  observed  I think a  excellent  eye  sight to spot  someone in trouble  would be  needed.  Also to be  able to jump up and  run  very fast  and  dive in for  a  save.    good luck,   *mamatx
