  1. Oxford is the equivalence of Harvard or Yale in the US. Furthermore UK immigration rules and in particular in regard to student visas for non-EU students have recently changed.

My advice would be to get top grades and apply early as you may struggle to get a student visa and if you do the £  / $ is about $1.85 for every £1 so living in the UK will be quite expensive. Best thing to do is save and plan for your studies.

  2. Oxford is not a Grad school it is one of the finest Universities in the world. When my son was taking a Phd he had to be sponsored by a company. A Phd is research into a specific subject.

I think you need to do a bit of research into this yourself.

  3. I don't think Oxford offers a Soviet studies course, here is the course list:

    US qualifications for Oxford University:

Successful candidates would typically have an excellent High School record supplemented by SAT I scores of at least 1,400 in Critical Reading and Mathematics and preferably also 700 or more in the Writing Paper, giving a combined score of at least 2,100, or ACT with a score of at least 32 out of 36. We would also expect three Advanced Placement tests in appropriate subjects with two at grade 5 and one at grade 4 or SAT II two or three appropriate subjects at 700 or better.

    More information:

Oxford University is happy to receive applications from students from any country in the world providing that they are studying for, or have already achieved, three A-Levels or other equivalent academic qualifications.

In order to be admitted, candidates must show evidence of an appropriate educational background and good standards of literacy and numeracy. All applications are considered carefully on their individual merits and tutors consider academic achievements, predicted grades, candidates’ personal statements and academic references as well as any written work or written test that may be required as part of the application.

Providing that you meet any specific requirements for your course, we recommend you to take those subjects that interest you most and in which you feel you have the ability to do best. Tutors are much more interested in candidates’ overall academic ability, and their potential and motivation for the course at Oxford, than the particular programmes which have been followed at school.

Competition is strong and conditional offers are likely to be for high grades. The offer may specify certain grades to be achieved in particular subjects if they have not been achieved already.

Hope this helps, I hope to attend Oxford too. Ask in the additional details and I will try to help if you need anymore information, good luck.  :-)
